Actor Dave Johns, who starred in Ken Loach's award-winning 2016 film I, Daniel Blake, is updating the story for its first stage version.

Johns starred in the film as Dan, a Newcastle carpenter who struggles to claim benefits after suffering a heart attack.

The film won director Loach the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Johns is currently writing the script for his theater premiere, which he says would reflect current issues such as rising bills and the cost of living crisis.

"Ken Loach is all behind this e t said there was more to say," he told BBC News.

"I think it's even more necessary than ever for the position we find ourselves in, with the return of austerity and the cost of rising lives and zero hour contracts and all that, and that's Daniel Blake for 2023."

The film showed the main character running into a callous benefits system and befriended a young family who had left London to find accommodation.
