Two "dumb" surfers infuriated a mayor after rushing to identify a famous channel.

Luigi Brugnaro posted a video of the duo traveling at speed along Venice's famous waterway after camera footage revealed their behavior.

He pleaded for the public's help on Twitter in hopes of finding what he described as "two bossy idiots mocking the city" in an effort to have them punished for their antics.

On the social networking site, he said, "Mayors urgently need more power over public safety."

He promised to buy anyone who could identify the surfers dinner.

He later said that their boards had been "confiscated" and would soon be located.

Brugnaro did not specify the penalty he would face, but fines have been imposed in other Italian cities for abusing high-profile sites and several rules govern visitor behavior.

Venice has suffered from over-tourism and visitor behavior is not always appropriate given its historical character and the fragility of its attractions.
