Liz Truss says Nicola Sturgeon is an 'attention seeker'

Liz Truss, under fire from critics, sparked a backlash after her 'cack handed' attack on Nicola Sturgeon - the day she was forced into a dramatic about-face on public sector wages.

The leadership favorite last night claimed the government should 'ignore' the Scottish First Minister, calling her an 'attention seeker' in a stunning tirade.

This morning a senior SNP MP accused her of 'drawing dirty tricks to make the headlines', and said the move was 'straight out of Trump's book'.

Meanwhile, Theresa May's former chief of staff has said the government 'cannot ignore' Scottish nationalists.

It comes on a day of chaos for Ms. Truss, as she was forced to abandon plans that would have cut wages for nurses, teachers and other public sector workers.

Responding to last night's attack on Ms Sturgeon, Kirsten Oswald, Deputy Leader of the SNP at Westminster, fumed: "The likely next Prime Minister has made it clear that the partnership of equals promised to Scotland in 2014 was a sham.

"Pulling back the headlines is straight out of Trump's book, but reveals like never before the disregard Westminster has for the democratic choices Scots and the elected Scottish government are making.
