Liz Truss set her sights on the Welsh Prime Minister tonight, just days after saying she would 'ignore' her Scottish counterpart.

Ms Truss, who is the favorite to succeed Boris Johnson, called Labour's Mark Drakeford 'low-energy Jeremy Corbyn' and told party loyalists: 'I will quell his negativity.'

The Foreign Secretary appears set to have a rocky relationship with devolved governments, having described Nicola Sturgeon as an 'attention seeker' earlier this week.

She doubled down on her attack on Ms Sturgeon tonight, saying: 'All the resources of the Scottish Government are being used to carry out a campaign for independence.

"They are no match for the Scottish people, Nicola Sturgeon spends her time advocating for an independent Scotland."

She made the comments during an election campaign in Cardiff, where her rival Rishi Sunak said he was 'happy' that she had backtracked on catastrophic plans that would have seen hundreds of thousands of civil servants take a pay cut.< /p>

Protesters had previously gathered outside the event holding signs voicing their opposition to the party.

“Never Truss a Tory,” read one sign. "They'll fuck you on Sunak or later," said another.

The candidates explained their priorities to a room full of Tory members in the Welsh capital - one of 12 campaign events being held for party supporters across the UK. The next Prime Minister will be chosen by around 160,000 Tory members, or around 0.3% of the UK population.
