Matt Hancock has set back the cause of showing people the positive side of dyslexia by a decade, a shadow cabinet minister has warned.

Labour's Peter Kyle, who is dyslexic, said it was "hurtful" for the ex-health secretary to claim he is continuing I'm a celebrity, get me out of here! to raise awareness about dyslexia.

Shadow Northern Ireland's secretary accused him of instead "disappearing to earn hundreds of thousands of pounds" while "damaging the reputation of all politicians".

Mr. Kyle told the Mirror: "Matt Hancock has stirred up a storm of controversy by turning his back on Parliament and embracing reality TV. He is now looking for a way to shield himself from criticism.

"He's on the show with the goal of rehabilitating his image. It's not about educating the public about living with dyslexia.

Mr. Hancock is facing an increasingly violent backlash following his decision to step down from parliament to travel 10,000 miles around the world to appear on the ITV show.

Voters in his West Suffolk constituency expressed their anger, as he had the Tory whip suspended for evading office at Westminster.

The disgraced MP tried to defend himself, saying he decided to participate in the program because he wanted to “use this incredible platform to raise awareness” about dyslexia.

But Mr. Kyle said it was wrong to try to drag dyslexia into the row.
