Mike Tyson Criticizes Hulu Series 'Mike': 'Heads Will Roll For This'

Hulu's upcoming limited series "Mike" is the most serious attempt yet to give Mike Tyson's life and boxing career the cinematic treatment. But Tyson isn't too happy with the project.

The boxer took to Twitter over the weekend to complain that Hulu was producing the unauthorized show without his consent.

"Hulu stole my story", . "They're Goliath and I'm David. Heads will roll for that. He then said that "Hulu's model of stealing the life rights of celebrities is extremely greedy".

This isn't the first time Tyson has complained about the Hulu series. In a previously deleted Instagram post, he wrote: "Hulu's announcement to make an unauthorized miniseries of Tyson's story without compensation, while unfortunate, is unsurprising."

It's possible that Tyson's opposition to the show is partly fueled by the fact that it competes with a separate project he's developing. Jamie Foxx will play the boxer in "Tyson," a limited series directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Martin Scorsese. This project, which is currently being offered to potential networks, has the full support of Tyson.

"I've been looking to tell my story for some time," Tyson previously said in a statement announcing the show. "With the recent launch of Legends Only League and the excitement of the fans following my return to the ring, now is the perfect time. I look forward to collaborating with Martin, Antoine, Jamie and the entire creative team to deliver audiences a series that not only captures my professional and personal journey, but also inspires and entertains."

When asked for comment, a Hulu rep referred IndieWire to the following quote from showrunner Karen Gist from Television Critics of America's press tour on Thursday.

"We just wanted to tell an unbiased story and let the audience decide what they think or feel," Gist said. "Challenging what people think they know about Mike and hoping they walk away from the show with something else to think about. Love him or hate him, does the story bring you wondering how complicit society has been? That was the intention, it was the North Star for the writers room as we created stories."
