Mount admits Chilwell's injury is 'difficult to watch' but reveals another Chelsea star's joy

Mason Mount described Ben Chilwell's injury during stoppage time as "difficult to watch" after the Chelsea defender's World Cup hopes were left on hold.

The Blues came from behind to beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 in their final Champions League group game thanks to goals from Raheem Sterling and Denis Zakaria after Bruno Petkovic gave the visitors the lead Croats.

But the evening was marred by Chilwell's injury in the final moments, with manager Graham Potter later confirming it was a hamstring problem which could see the England international suspended. away for the World Cup.

Mount, his Chelsea teammate, hopes Chilwell's diagnosis isn't as serious as feared, saying: "We don't know how serious it is, but it was hard to watch .

"We saw his reaction and it never looks good. As soon as you feel something and you don't even think about the ball, it's hard.

"We know what's coming, hopefully it's not too serious and he can come back as soon as possible because we need him too," Mount told the Chelsea website .

Chilwell, who was later pictured leaving the floor on crutches, did not start the Blues' 4-1 battle at Brighton last weekend and the club were managing their workload after struggling against anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Potter has acknowledged the latest setback could hurt the 25-year-old's hopes of making Gareth Southgate's World Cup squad, with England playing their first match of the tournament in Qatar against Iran on November 21.

Sterling, one of four players to keep his place after Brighton's debacle, equalized with his first Chelsea goal since September 14, much to Mount's delight.

"It's great for Raz, he took his goal very well, very happy for him," added Mount.

"He doesn't think about the number of games he goes without scoring. He's so focused on helping the team and getting the right positions and it will come for him, we know how much he is good."
