My incredible year of jet-setting, without flying - from Newcastle to Stockholm to Ibiza

My incredible year of jet-setting - without flying: The travel writer traveled Europe from Stockholm to Ibiza in 2022 using trains, folding bikes and even a sailing cross-Channel ferry serviceCarlton Reid used the services of DFDS ferry to travel from the UK to AmsterdamHe also used a 39ft wind-powered catamaran to reach Boulogne from DoverCarlton used folding bikes to replace bus and taxi journeys around houses

I am one for guide dogs. Our family nurtures and socializes the little puppies until they are ready to go for full training. We care for one dog at a time, and I am the main carer because, unlike my hospital doctor wife, I work from home. (I'm a freelance writer.)

Our last pup left to start his new life in March, and we won't have another one until the end of December. It was painfully sad to say goodbye to Berry but, on the plus side, I then had the best part of nine months to travel on the magazine and newspaper commission.

I have reported from the European Commission in Brussels, written business stories about the Tour de France visit to Denmark and , courtesy of a Sunderland-based factory, I've been touring Sweden on a swanky press launch for a new electric car. And for MailOnline Travel I wrote stories about trips to Ibiza,
