Lamichhane, 22, has was taken into custody after landing at Kathmandu airport in Nepal, local police told Reuters.

He said on Facebook that he was returning to cooperate with the investigation and denied any wrongdoing.

< p class="" data-reactid=".10038jkmkd4.0.0.0.1.$paragraph -4">Lamichhane is Nepal's most prominent cricketer, having played in the Australian Big Bash and the Indian Premier League.

He was suspended as captain of Nepal last month over rape charges.

The warrant was issued by a Nepalese court on September 8 while Lamichhane was in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

A day later he tweeted that he was quitting CPL and would return to Nepal.< /p>

On September 25, he issued a new statement that he did not return, and after that, the Nepalese police said that they asked for help from Interpol with a "broadcast" notice asking member countries to cooperate in bringing Lamichhane back to the country to face charges.

"The news of the arrest warrant issued against me made me mentally troubled. I didn't know what to do and what not to do," Lamichhane said.

"My health is gradually improving and I plan to return to Nepal as soon as possible to vehemently retaliate [against the allegations].."

He arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday on a flight from Doha.
