A 32-year-old drug addict kills his mother in Ogun

A 32-year-old Samson Sikiru, believed to be a hard drug addict, allegedly killed his mother by strangulation.

The incident, DAILY POST learned, happened on Sunday at the residence of the deceased located in Itanrin in the Ijebu-Ode area of ​​Ogun State.

The suspect's younger brother, who is a night watchman, sounded the alarm after he returned from night duty and discovered that his mother had been murdered.

It was learned that Samson was arrested when neighbors discovered he was behind his mother's death and later handed him over to the police.

A source said the suspect was a known drug addict, saying he ran away from home five years ago before returning recently.

Confirming the incident, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer Omotola Odutola said the command was aware of the incident.

According to Odutola, the suspect is currently a neuropsychiatric patient.

The PPRO explained that family members sometimes tied Samson with ropes to prevent him from harming himself or anyone else.

"He had stayed with his mother whom he visited during Sallah celebrations, even though he is known for his retarded streak, but his condition was being managed to the best of his mother's knowledge.

“It is not yet clear whether there was any provocation from his mother, but a preliminary investigation revealed that earlier the same day he was tied up in the house, only for him to 'he broke off and went down on his mother and strangled her,' she said.

Odutola said marks of abuse were found around the deceased mother, including lacerations discovered around her right legs, saying this proved there was force or violence.

"Samson Sikiru is still in custody, but nothing has been learned from him, as he has not answered any coherent questions put to him," she said.
