Lagos issues traffic advisory for APC presidential and governors gatherings

Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential and Governors rallies to be held at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, State on Saturday from Lagos.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Dr Frederic Oladeinde gave his opinion on Wednesday.

He advised Lagosians to plan their movements around Teslim Balogun Stadium, Funsho Williams Avenue and Alhaji Masha areas in Surulere, saying that human and vehicular movement in the affected areas would be regulated as traffic would be diverted for safety and security management purposes.

According to him, traffic on Funsho Williams/Western Avenue to Lagos Island will be diverted to the express line at Barracks bus stop for commuters serving Costain, Apapa, Ijora, Victoria Island, Lagos Island, towards Olumegbon for people traveling to New Neighborhoods Lagos/Surulere.

Further information, the Transport Commissioner has stated that traffic on Funsho Williams/Western Avenue towards Surulere/Ojuelegba will be diverted to the express lanes/stadium bridge at the Alaka bus stop for people traveling visiting the areas of Mushin, Palm groove, Ikeja, Ojota and Ikorodu. , and Bode Thomas and Eric Moore at Iponri Estate for people traveling to the New Lagos/Surulere areas.

He added that vehicular traffic on Alhaji Masha road to Akerele/Shitta junction and on Funsho Williams from Olumegbon junction to Alaka would be totally restricted for safety reasons as only human traffic would be allowed .

Oladeinde further explained that vehicles carrying party members and others with rally accredited stickers would be granted free parking with access to the National Stadium only through Alaka in the National Stadium, pointing out that those in 'Ojuelegba/Mushin/Palmgrove on Funsho Williams access the National Stadium via U-turn at Alaka. Additionally, those from Surulere will access the stadium via Adeniran Ogunsanya/Bode Thomas/Ogunlana Drive/Alaji Masha to connect Alaka inside the National Stadium.

The Commissioner mentioned that directional signs, tow vehicles, barricades will be made available, he also assured that traffic management personnel will be on standby to provide assistance and guide motorists/pedestrians during gatherings.

While reiterating that only accredited vehicles, security, emergency and essential services vehicles will be granted privileged access to detour points, the Transport Commissioner also commended the people of Lagos for their patience and their understanding.

He sought the residents' cooperation with all law enforcement officials tasked with carrying out their respective duties.
