For some pop stars, touring burnout is a growing problem, with Justin Bieber, Sam Fender and Shawn Mendes canceling gigs for mental and physical health reasons. Despite a big tour this year, former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has avoided the curse.

Tomlinson says he's never more happy only when he's on the road.

"I love the lifestyle," he says. "Maybe a little too much."

The former boy band member can sympathize with those who find late nights, constant traveling and feelings of dislocation are wreaking havoc with their body chemistry and impacting their strength and resilience.

He saw firsthand the consequences that the tour had on his former bandmate Zayn Malik, whose panic attacks eventually forced him to stop performing live.

But the secret to staying balanced, according to Tomlinson, is to avoid hotel rooms. "Eventually, you lose the feeling of being at home."

Instead, he sleeps on the tour bus with his band, settling into a bunk "which stays the same every day".< /p>'The truest form of what I do'
