LP government will secure and unite Nigeria, says Obi

Why the Yoruba should not take the next presidential spot but the Igbo, by Adebanjo

Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi said yesterday that the government the party plans to form when it wins the 2023 presidential election would secure and unify Nigeria.

Obi, who said this at a mega rally at Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, ahead of the 2023 general elections, added that the LP government would be the start of a new Nigeria where justice, fairness and equity would be upheld.

He assured party supporters, who besieged the stadium, that the LP government would take Nigeria from consumption to production if elected in 2023, and would also transform the former city of Ibadan and the would make it economically viable.

The former governor of Anambra State also praised the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, for his defense of justice, fairness and equity as well as for his support for the party.

In his speech, Adebanjo said the upcoming general elections were not about lies, propaganda or abuse, but needed explaining "what I am here to do".

He said, "Those of you who have suffered under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the past seven years and yearn to be free should listen to me. We are not here. to abuse anyone. Those of you who say I hate Bola Tinubu and that's why I said people shouldn't vote for him should also realize that I supported the same Tinubu when he got the Alliance for Democracy (AD) ticket in 1998. They say what they do I don't know.

"The Yoruba produced the president in the person of former president Olusegun Obasanjo. He was succeeded by a northerner, late Umaru Yar'Adua, who was also replaced by former president Goodluck Jonathan from South-South. When Jonathan left in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari from the North stepped in and now that the thing is coming back to the South, should the Yoruba take it over or are we saying the Igbo are not part of Nigeria?”
