LP state chairs lament marginalization and lack of funds for poll workers

Ahead of tomorrow's presidential election, Labor Party (LP) state chairpersons have claimed that northern members are being neglected by presidential candidate Peter Obi in the conduct of campaigning and mobilization activities.

They said Obi failed to recognize the important role of leading the 36 state chapters, choosing instead to work with buddies and support groups. At a press conference in Abuja yesterday, Gombe State LP Chairman and Coordinating Chairman for the 36 States, Sani Abdulsalam, said such trends could affect the party's performance at the polls.

Accompanied by Mohammed Alkali (National Vice President, North East), Ibrahim Bukar (Yobe State President) and others, Abdulsalam alleged that the money intended for the mobilization of poll workers had been retained by the national management.

He suggested that money that should be funneled to poll workers, through state presidents or national officers, has not materialized, although he pointed out the need for agents to win elections. He also accused Obi of insensitivity and authoritarianism.

Abdulsalam said: "I am speaking on behalf of the 36 state presidents of our party, in my capacity as the coordinating president. The party leadership has never respected us and our presidential candidate has no respect for our party leaders at the state level because Peter Obi deliberately mismanaged our goodwill by imposing on our members and other support groups who decamped with him in May 2022 our party.< /p>

“Worth noting is the meeting we had with the National President at Party Headquarters, where a discussion took place on logistical support to State Chapters and National Officers, for effective mobilization of our members for the presidential election and for the National Assembly.< /p>

"To our surprise, the National President said that the presidential candidate has no faith in the 36 state leaders, but prefers to work with buddies and support groups that support him. accompanied.

"The National President's biggest shock was that the money for the officers will not be sent to any State President or National Officer except for three members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including a woman. And that all state presidents and 19 other members, already chosen by Peter Obi himself, will receive money intended for party agents.

“No alerts have been received by any state president, and the information reaching us confirms that the money was paid on the basis of ethnic and religious considerations, because only people of an ethnic group particular are currently running Mr. Peter Obi's campaign, in cohort with the National President.

“As members of the National Executive of the Labor Party and the NWC, our considered opinion and informed conclusion is that Peter Obi cannot win this election, as all party leaders have been ousted. He's not ready and grossly unprepared for the presidential race."
