Man arrested for kidnapping Baptist leader

The Imo State Police Command said on Monday it had arrested a person in connection with the abduction of one of the female leaders of the First Baptist Church located on Wetheral Road in Owerri, the capital of the state.

The victim, Biola Abeoye, was abducted after a church service on Sunday by gunmen operating in a Toyota Camry vehicle.

The victim, who is the wife of Imo's general manager of the Nekede Zoological Park, was believed to be among other worshipers when the suspects struck, firing several times in the air before walking away with their target.

Police, who confirmed the woman's abduction on Monday, said the command had opened an investigation into the crime.

Police spokesman for the command, Micheal Abattam, told reporters that a suspect had been arrested and was being questioned.

He assured the safety of the victim and said that the command was working for the rapid return of the woman.
