Nnamdi Kanu: IPOB chief's continued detention is kidnapping - HURIWA to Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has been warned that further illegal detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, would be considered an abduction.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, further accused Justice Minister Abubakar Malami of playing up the Miyetti Allah cattle dealers scenario.

The rights group says the president must stop playing what it describes as the toxic northern ethnic card and obey the court verdict that fired the IPOB man.

HURIWA further criticized President Muhammadu Buhari's National Security Council which recommended that the IPOB chief remain in custody, describing the recommendation as a clear violation of the appeals court's binding judgment< /p>

"The Federal Attorney General's position on the Court of Appeal's thoughtful judgment of Nnamdi Kanu is banal, childish and laughable," said HURIWA's statement, signed by Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group's national coordinator.

“Any further detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would amount to active hostage taking and a real criminal case of kidnapping, which is subject to prosecution. We wonder why a barrister of illustrious Malami status gracing the title of Nigeria's Principal Barrister now speaks like a one-hundred-grade law student from a roadside law school in the corner of Nigeria.

"This holder of the High Office of the AGF must take note that history will not be kind to him because he has been constantly seen arguing against the principles of the rule of law when he should be speaking and to act as an impartial chief law officer of the federation and not of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Owners Association.”
