Obasanjo talks about Tinubu's visit

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied reports that he backed the presidential ambitions of APC candidate Bola Tinubu when he visited him in Abeokuta.

In a statement by Mr. Obasanjo's special assistant for the media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday, the former president said statements by those claiming to be Mr. Tinubu's supporters are unnecessary.

He said the discussion during the visit was "more fraternal than political".

Mr. Obasanjo's aide further said that the former president neither accepted nor disapproved of Mr. Tinubu's 'request'.

"Those who claim to be insiders at the meeting who post a statement about the discussion and those who attribute a statement to me that I did not make are enemies of the visitor and do the visit no good. "

Mr. Tinubu had visited Mr. Obasanjo at the former president's private residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on Wednesday.

MM. Obasanjo and Tinubu met behind closed doors for three hours but declined to speak to the press after the meeting.

Those accompanying Mr. Tinubu included two former state governors, Olusegun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel; the former acting national president of the APC, Bisi Akande; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Pioneer President of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu among others.

Mr. Gbajabiamila had told reporters in Lagos that Mr. Obasanjo had made encouraging statements about Mr. Tinubu's aspiration and even prayed for the APC presidential candidate.

He added that Mr. Obasanjo had ensured Tinubu victory at the polls.
