Ogun Governor's Poll: Supporters beg Amosun to help PDP overthrow Abiodun

Some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters in Ogun State, under the umbrella of “Concerned Ogun Citizens”, stormed the residence of a former governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, begging him to help their party overthrow Governor Dapo Abiodun in the March 18 gubernatorial election.

Despite being a senator on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, Mr. Amosun does not support Mr. Abiodun's bid for a second term. Instead, he campaigned for African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, ‘Biyi Otegbeye.

Mr. Amosun also did not support the governor when he was elected in 2019.

On Saturday morning, PDP supporters carrying placards stormed Mr Amosun's Ibara Housing Estate and urged him to support PDP candidate Ladi Adebutu in the election.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read "Dapo Abiodun must go", "Senator Ibikunle Amosun don't let the people of Ogun State down", "Senator Amosun supports us now", "United we stand , divided we fall", "Senator Ibikunle Amosun, please join the allied PDP forces now", "New Ogun State is possible, Dapo Abiodun must go", among others.

Group leader Ajirotutu Oluwafemi, who delivered a letter to the senator, said only a strong alliance can help the opposition defeat Mr Abiodun in the polls.

"It is very obvious that to defeat a starter we have to work as a team with a lot of sacrifice.

“Excellency Sir, we hereby request you, in the interest of the people of Ogun State, to see the reasons to stop using the ADC as another platform to seize power by Dapo Abiodun and APC.

“It is logically clear that any vote for the ADC in the upcoming elections will serve as an indirect aid to return Dapo Abiodun to power. will not have its way.

“It is on this note that we make an impassioned appeal to Your Excellency to come out to lead the main opposition political parties in Ogun State to victory on the platform of the PDP “, said Mr. Oluwafemi.

The protest letter was received on behalf of Mr. Amosun by the director general of the Biyi Otegbeye campaign organization, Muyiwa Oladipo.

The campaign CEO assured supporters that their demands would be considered for the benefit of all Ogun people.
