A candidate for the PDP Assembly dies in the Plateau
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Plateau State Assembly Penganna constituency for the upcoming elections, Matthew Akawu, is dead.
Tribune Online has learned that the candidate, who was believed to be in good health, attended his constituency's annual festival on Thursday, fully participated in the dance and was seen performing exchanging pleasantries with people.
A source close to the deceased pointed out that the late Akawu left the festival venue around 5:00 p.m. accompanied by a few people and arrived at his home around 5:45 p.m.

The source said that around 8:00 p.m. he told his family members that he was in severe pain in his chest, adding that he was immediately rushed to hospital and later pronounced dead in the early hours of Friday after hours of efforts by doctors and other health workers to save his life.
PDP Publicity Secretary Mr John Akans, who confirmed the death of the House of Assembly candidate, described the deceased as a reliable and dedicated grassroots mobilizer and party man .
Akans said he will be missed by the party, especially in the upcoming elections, primarily because of his acceptability and popularity among people in his constituency and beyond.
He however prayed to God to grant the family the courage to bear the loss, adding that the party in the state will miss Akawu for being a grassroots mobilizer as well.
