Security forces clear terror leader's camp in Kaduna and discover materials for making explosives

Kaduna security officers cleared the hideout of notorious terrorist Lawan Kwalba in Chikun local government on Thursday and recovered materials for making explosives.

State Internal Security Commissioner Samuel Aruwan said security forces recovered 27 bags of fertilizer for possible explosives production found in the hideout deep in the Chikun forest.

Mr. Aruwan said troops cleared Mr Kwalba's camp in Rafin Dawa in the council's Dende area.

The official said security forces have made further inroads in the ongoing campaign against terrorists and armed gangs across the state.

He said operational feedback given to the state government indicated that “Operation Forest Sanity troops conducted an operation at the site after receiving actionable intelligence.

“After clearing the camp, the troops recovered batteries and 27 bags of fertilizer. These materials point to probable plans for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), given the bandits' close alliance with terrorists.

"In addition, a motorcycle and two cell phones were recovered as the bandits fled before the troops arrived.

“Troops extended the search a short distance from the camp and made a few arrests. Investigations are ongoing into the intercepted suspects.

"The Kaduna State government received the report with satisfaction and commended the hard work of the officers and men conducting the operations," Aruwan said.

Thursday's operation followed Tuesday's raid in the same council area where seven abduction victims, including a baby, were rescued in Kurita and Manini communities.

During Tuesday's operation, troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight that forced the gunmen to flee their camp.

Rescued hostages identified as Sahara Hamisu; Ramlatou Umar; Saudata Ibrahim; Maryam Shitu; Fatima Shuaibu; and Khadijah Mohammed with her infant child.
