Tinubu will focus on thematic campaigns – Onanuga

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for Bola Tinubu has assured that it will focus on thematic campaigns ahead of the 2023 general election.

The Council's Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, gave the assurance in a statement on Monday in Abuja, while reacting to the negative propaganda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the APC.< /p>

He described the PDP as a party still struggling with a leadership crisis and without a legacy of visionary planning, saying it has no place in Nigeria's future.

Mr. Onanuga listed some completed projects abandoned by the PDP administration to include the Lagos-Ibadan highway, the Abuja-Kaduna railway and the second Niger bridge.

He added that the DPP had left unfinished railways, roads, electricity and ports which signaled a prostrate economy and a socially disoriented country.

He recalled that Mr. Tinubu had contrasted the PDP era with seven years of APC-led government and its plans for the future.

“They have spent 16 years forgetting that there is rail infrastructure capable of transport, human transport, animal transport and food transport across the country.

“These are people who are still fighting for the direction of their party, who are looking for the direction of the compass, we are not equal at all; we are smarter. We know the road; let them follow.

"We are not just the ones throwing name-calling and insults at our rivals' party, we don't need it.

“We are smarter; we are brilliant; we are brave; we are not like them,” he quoted, quoting Mr. Tinubu.

Mr. Onanuga noted that instead of the PDP responding to issues raised by Mr. Tinubu recently, the party has abandoned all decorum and hurled personal abuse at him.

He described this as the hallmark of a party that has nothing to offer the people, adding that no decent person expects the PDP to do better.

According to him, the PDP and its leaders were distraught as a ruling party and still rudderless in opposition.

He reassured that the APC and its presidential candidate would focus on the important issues to improve the quality of life of Nigerians in the coming campaigns.

He said the PDP only wants to keep its floundering campaign alive by engaging in baseless muckraking, adding that the APC is still the party to beat.

Mr. Onanuga added that despite the PDP's negative propaganda that the APC government got nothing, the administration's achievements were there even for the blind.

"Let's be clear for the PDP: the current APC government has many achievements to be proud of unlike the PDP.

"He squandered and plundered Nigeria's resources and couldn't even deliver a mere second bridge over the Niger to the people of the Southeast, who have always voted for him since 1999.

“To the shame of the PDP and the undying credit to APC, President Muhammadu Buhari will commission the bridge this year and complete the Lagos-Ibadan highway, abandoned for 16 years by the PDP,” Mr. Onanuga said .

He added that among its many laudable achievements, the current APC-led government has to its credit the Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe rail network and over 13,000 kilometers of roads.

He also listed bridges at different stages of completion across the country, in contrast to the PDP years, which he said spent N633 billion on roads that no one could see during its first 10 years.

He added that the Buhari administration had completed no less than five airports.

He said the administration would take credit for ensuring that the $17 billion Dangote refinery and petrochemical complex and the deep-sea port of Lekki, worth $3 billion, be realized.

Mr. Onanuga said Mr. Buhari could point to unprecedented investments in agriculture through the Anchor Borrowers program for rice, corn, cotton and others.

He added that under the APC-led administration, Nigeria has become Africa's largest rice producer, drastically reducing the rice and food import bill.
