'Oppenheimer' Trailer: Cillian Murphy Prepares for Destruction in Christopher Nolan's WWII Biopic

"Avatar: The Way of the Water" turns out to be a gold mine for movie buffs. While much has been made of James Cameron's long-awaited sequel and its stunning visual effects, fans heading to theaters this weekend are also treated to trailers for some of the hottest films from next year. 'Barbie' teaser shows off even more fabulous doll outfits from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, and a new trailer for 'Oppenheimer' gives fans their best look at what Christopher Nolan is up to in his film about the inventor of the Robert Oppenheimer atomic bomb.

'Oppenheimer' is Nolan's second film to deal with WWII-related subjects, following the success of 2017's 'Dunkirk'. But while it was just a war movie, " Oppenheimer" promises to be a more intimate character study that takes viewers inside the mind of the man who created history's deadliest weapon.

Written and directed by Nolan, “Oppenheimer” stars Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek, Casey Affleck, Gary Oldman, James Remar, Josh Hartnett and Alden Ehrenreich.

With a budget of "only" $100 million, "Oppenheimer" will be Nolan's smallest film in decades. But the amateur spectacle director always finds ways to visually dazzle his audience. In a recent interview, Nolan explained that the film recreates the first detonation of a nuclear bomb without using digital effects.

"I think recreating the Trinity test [the first nuclear detonation] without using computer graphics was a huge challenge," Nolan said. “Andrew Jackson – my visual effects supervisor, I got him on board very early on – was researching how we could do practically a lot of the visuals of the film, from depicting quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself. , at recreation , with my crew, Los Alamos on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, much of which was needed for the film, in terms of the very harsh conditions there - there were huge challenges practices."
