The 185,000 ton, 345m long Excel-class ship ( 1,131ft) sets sail for the Canary Islands today (Friday) after docking in Southampton on Sunday, with P&O Cruises Chairman Paul Ludlow describing her as "the latest evolution of the P&O Cruises experience".

He added: "[Arvia] embodies the latest trends in travel, dining and entertainment and is the epitome of a sun-kissed beach resort cruising the year round to warmer climes.She carries on the aesthetics and general layout of her sister ship Iona, but offers exciting new outdoor and indoor spaces that make the most of Arvia's deployment in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.

"We can't wait for our first guests… to see the extraord attention attention to detail, the design of restaurants and bars, the scale of the theatre, the layout and new brands in the retail area and the exhilarating activities of the upper deck. We see a new generation recognizing the value for money and individuality of holidays at sea.'
