Majorcan storm destroys hotel pool
The storm that reportedly caused a P&O cruise ship to collide with a cargo ship earlier today also destroyed part of a hotel complex on the island of Mallorca.
Strong gusting winds sent sun loungers flying into the sea and pool, which was caught on camera by British holidaymakers. The video was taken at the Punta del Mar hotel and spa, just outside Santa Ponsa on the island, during the storm, which could also have caused the Britannia to sink into another boat in the Balearic Islands, with people on board treated for their injuries.
Passengers on board the Britannia described being "pushed ashore by tugs while confined to our cabins" after the horrifying incident. Another guest on the 5,000-berth vessel said it was a 'panic station' when the horn sounded aboard the boat after a storm 'suddenly hit' off Palma in Mallorca after her moorings were broken.
