A student has been sentenced to a crushing six-and-a-half-year sentence for daring to criticize two dictators over the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Danuta Perednya reposted a post criticizing Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.

The Kiraŭski District Court in Belarus convicted her for simply expressing her anti-war opinion in a repost.

She was found to have harmed Belarus' "national interests" by criticizing Lukashenko, seen in the West and by opposition forces, as a vote-rigging tyrant who distorted the results of a 2020 presidential election to stay in power illegally.

His February 27 post - three days after Putin's invasion of Ukraine began - reportedly included a call for street protests and critical comments about the Belarusian military.

She was arrested on February 28 and immediately expelled from her university despite being the "best student".

On June 10, the infamous KGB - the Committee for State Security which still uses its Soviet acronym - put her on its list of "persons involved in terrorist activities".

His sentencing comes as a draconian response to a new publication criticizing Putin and Lukashenko over the Ukrainian invasion.

Perednya has been dubbed "Belarus's youngest terrorist" for speaking out against both presidents, who allow no criticism of their regime.
