A suspected cannibal has been arrested at an airport after police found 'suspicious meat' in his suitcase.

The 25-year-old, locally named Begolea Mendes Fernandes, was detained at Lisbon airport after arriving on a flight from Amsterdam.

The contents of his luggage, which would contain meat that detectives believe could be human, are currently being analyzed in a specialized laboratory.

Fernandes is suspected of killing a 21-year-old boy named Alan Lopes on Sunday in the Dutch capital.

Dutch police have confirmed that he was the victim of a "serious violent crime".

The Portuguese press said that investigators suspected the killer of having committed cannibalism.
