Take a look at Barry Keoghan's audition for The Joker in 'The Batman'

Barry Keoghan - The Joker

Why so serious, Barry? A recent interview with British GQ revealed that the audition video British actor Barry Keoghan created for Matt Reeves has been online for years. But we only find out now! In Matt Reeves' The Batman movie from earlier this year (still one of our favorites), the final scene at Arkham Asylum reveals another prisoner in another nearby cell close to The Riddler from Paul Dano. He has green hair and a big creepy smile - although his name is never revealed in this final scene. We all know it was The Joker, a teaser for things to come much like how Batman Begins also ends with a Joker card hint. Talented young actor Barry Keoghan plays the role, appearing onscreen for less than five minutes (with that deleted scene). How did he get the gig? Well, Keoghan has revealed her audition video – shot in a hallway by DP Angie Sciulli. Wearing make-up and a top hat + cane costume, he casually strolls down the hallway and then returns - with just a little blood on his face. You can check it below. Don't forget to smile.

Barry Keoghan as Joker

Thanks to British GQ for the tip on this audition video. This comes from a recent article published on Barry Keoghan, profiling the actor and his performances - he discusses the role: "Under heavy prosthetics that make him look like a maniac going through a meat grinder, Keoghan insisted about her blue eyes staying the same. ' I wanted some kind of human in there behind the makeup," he says. "I want people to identify with him… [to know] it's a facade he puts on." The character is, for Keoghan, "a broken down boy"... Recently, Keoghan sent Reeves a list that rated the best Jokers put on screen. "There were seven and I was number four," he smiles. "Guys, with four minutes of screen time, not bad huh!?' Keoghan has yet to be invited back for a sequel, but the character, kept under wraps and only revealed when audiences finally see him in theaters, feels like the set-up for something bigger. I'm here man, I'm here." In the meantime, he's determined to get a role in Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie. "I'm trying to meet him," he jokes, "I asked" everyone." "You can watch that deleted scene here. Who wants to see Barry back?
