The Hundred back for 2023 with first female player draft in major UK sport

Along with the men's draft, it will see at least 32 domestic and foreign players drafted in 2023.

The 100-ball competition involves eight teams from England and Wales.

"The draft represents another historic moment for women's sports in this country as The Hundred continues to innovate," said Beth Barrett-Wild, Head of women's competition.< /p>

"The Hundred's impact on women's football after just two editions of the competition has been tremendous, generating unprecedented levels of visibility, showcasing our brilliant players and setting performance standards."

Heather Knight played for Lo ndon Spirit in the tree the first two editions of the contest.

"It's great news that The Hundred is hosting the first-ever draft in the women's game, and it will be fascinating to see who the first pick is,” said the 31-year-old batsman.

"We've talked about this before as a playgroup - it's really exciting and I think we've seen in the men's game that drafts really get people talking and debating of the selection, so it's great that the girl group the competition will be part of this conversation."

How will this work?

The 2023 women's player selection process will take place in three stages: retention, draft and open market.

Before draft ge, teams will be able to retain up to four players from their 2022 squads during the retention window, which opens in December.

At this stage, each team can only retain a maximum of three marquee players (England/Overseas central contract), with no more than two English players or two overseas players.

The draft itself will see teams select a minimum of four players, with them following reverse order of ranking of this year, so Welsh Fire will choose first and the Oval Invincibles champions last.

Players will be selected consecutively in categories defined by salary bands; salaries for women and men will remain the same as in 2022.

Teams will then complete their teams by signing their remaining seven players on an open market basis.

During the three stages, each team is allowed to sign a maximum of three central contracts in England and three foreign players.
