Liz Truss has pledged to "support" the so-called "Treasury orthodoxy" under which money is released to already heavily invested areas - in an apparent blow to Rishi Sunak.

Mr. Sunak and Ms Truss faced another grilling from Conservative party members as they tried to win votes to become the next leader and first mini ster.

But the two candidates have faced heavy criticism.

Ms Truss has been accused of abandoning her post as Foreign Secretary, having been absent from almost all of her ministerial duties since joining the Race to the Tory leadership almost seven weeks ago, according to the Lib Dems.

And scientists have hit back at Mr Sunak for his suggestion that it was a 'mistake' to hold experts accountable during the pandemic of coronavirus, in a series of claims labeled "hazardous waste" by former No. 10 aide Dominic Cummings.

The ex-Chancellor told Spectator magazine that he 'wasn't allowed to talk about the compromise' of lockdowns during the early stages of the Covid crisis, which according to n him, could have been "faster", and claimed to have struggled with the "fear story" that drove public messaging.
