Heavy rain and strong winds are expected to disrupt Storm Antoni which will hit parts of the UK on Saturday.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning with the potential for damaging gusts of wind in parts of South West England and Wales between 11am and 7pm. This followed a yellow warning for "unusually windy weather" in the south of the UK between 8am and 8pm.

There is also a yellow warning until 11am for unusually wet and windy conditions which may cause disruption in Northern Ireland. An amber warning means there is an increased likelihood of weather impacts and people should consider changing their plans and taking steps to protect themselves and their property.

Some roads and bridges are likely to close, the Met Office warning says, and 'there is a high chance of power cuts occurring, with the potential to affect other services, such as the mobile phone coverage". Yellow warnings are issued when weather conditions are likely to cause low-level impacts, including travel disruptions in a few locations.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington has said the storm, which is the first to be named by the Met Office this season, will bring "potentially disruptive" weather as it moves from the west is.

He said the strongest winds will affect parts of South West England and South West Wales, with gusts reaching over 60mph. The strongest winds will affect parts of [the] South West of England and South West Wales where exposed coasts and high ground could see gusts in excess of 60mph,” he said. .
