Another large-scale Russian attack 'imminent' as heavy activity spotted at key air base

Russia is piling up bombers and cruise missiles for “imminent full-scale attack,” analysts say.

Satellite images provided by US company Maxar Technologies show a massive buildup of Russian aircraft at Engels-2 airport, located about 700 km (435 miles) from the Ukrainian border inside the Russia.

The aircraft includes nearly two dozen Tu-95 and Tu-160 long-range bombers - two of Russia's flagship cruise missile launchers.

The number of planes on the tarmac is unusual and could indicate an imminent attack, experts say.

Military analyst Arda Mevlutoğlu told German publication Spiegel: "The unusually high number of bombers on the tarmac is an indication of increased operations, or even an impending large-scale attack."

There are also a number of wheel loaders, which are used to transport the X-55 and X-101 cruise missiles - which have a range of 2,500 km and are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
