ABU denies threat to withdraw Kashifu's certificate on ASUU's UTAS

The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has refuted a claim that it threatened to withdraw the certificate of Inuwa Kashifu, director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) .

The alleged threat related to the official's comments on the integrity testing of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a payment platform developed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

ABU Public Affairs Director Auwalu Umar said Kashifu had never attended the institution for any academic program.

The DG holds a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi and has certifications in Leadership, Innovation, Telecommunications, Service Management, Networking and Solution Design.

Some were obtained from Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

A statement from Umar noted that at no time did the ABU leadership threaten to revoke the official's degree.

"After all, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, according to available records, never attended Ahmadu Bello University for any academic program, be it undergraduate, graduate or sub-degree", we read.

It was discovered that the threatening letter against UTAS was issued by the ASUU-ATBU branch and signed by Ibrahim Inuwa and Muhammad Muhammad.

They said that after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on March 9, 2022, Kashifu hinted that UTAS had failed the vulnerability (security integrity) test, the acceptance test of the (UAT) and stress load testing, as well as hardware requirements.

Responding, the Network of Advocates for Digital Reporting (NADIR) called ASUU's decision "laughable and misguided".

Spokesman Bello Shehu questioned why NITDA chief was being targeted 'for doing his job'

"In a desperate attempt to blackmail a public official into lowering the bars of his tenure and succumbing to selfish inclinations, ASUU resorted to threats.

"Has the union now usurped the mandate of the University Senate in awarding degrees?

"Is there a legally recognized marriage of convenience between unionism and earning ATBU degrees?

"Isn't ASUU overstepping its bounds and arrogating to itself authority outside of its jurisdiction," Shehu asked.
