Xavi's Barcelona climbed to the top of La Liga with a 4-0 win over lowest-placed Cadiz on Saturday in a game interrupted by a medical emergency in the stands.

Barça have 13 points in five games.

Champions Real Madrid, who have a perfect record so far, can return to the top on Sunday when they face Real Mallorca.

Frenkie de Jong scored the first in the 55th minute, with Polish striker Robert Lewandowski doubling the advantage ten minutes later.

Barca's star signing from the end of the season, Lewandowski, now has six goals in five La Liga appearances.

The match was abandoned in the 82nd minute due to a suspected heart attack in the stands. Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma grabbed a defibrillator from the team bench and sprinted onto the pitch to toss it to emergency personnel in the stands.

The ventilator was taken to an ambulance.

"This stuff goes beyond football, we are talking about a human life here, so we all agreed to stop," coach Xavi said.

"Fortunately, they managed to save him."

Barcelona scored twice more late in the game, thanks to Ansu Fati in the 86th minute and Frenchman Ousmane Dembele, who made it 4-0 in stoppage time.

"It wasn't a great game, but it was a good game," said Xavi, who is taking his side to Bayern Munich for a Champions League game on Tuesday.

Sevilla won 3-2 away at Espanyol for their first victory of the season thanks to a brace from Jose Angel Carmona and a goal from Erik Lamela, who was also booked late red as the visitors clung to three points.< /p>

Sevilla now travel to Copenhagen for the Champions League with mixed feelings.

"At 3-0, we rested after a good first half, but their goals reminded us of recent failures," coach Julen Lopetegui said.

Rayo Vallecano beat Valencia 2-1 thanks to an own goal from Nicolas Gonzalez. Mouctar Diakhaby offered a final consolation to the visitors.

Atletico Madrid take on Celta Vigo in the final game on Saturday.
