Rishi Sunak today hit back at Boris Johnson in the duo's bitter row over handing peerages to his pals.

Allies of the former Prime Minister have accused Mr Sunak of intervening in Mr Johnson's resignation honors list - and denying accolades to Nadine Dorries and Sir Alok Sharma.

No10 has denied the allegations - and the Prime Minister addressed the allegations head on during his speech at London Tech Week in Westminster this morning.

When asked about the row, the Prime Minister said: "As far as the honors and Boris Johnson are concerned, Boris Johnson asked me to do something that I wasn't ready to do because I didn't think that was fine - it was to either overrule the committee's decision (of House of Lords appointments) or make promises to people.

"Now I wasn't ready to do that because I thought it was wrong and if people don't like it, then tough."

Defending his approach to Downing Street, he added: "When I got this job I said I was going to do things differently because I wanted to change politics, and that's what I do."

Mr. Johnson sparked a fresh round of Tory infighting when he quit as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip on Friday.

He sensationally left Parliament after receiving a draft report from the House of Commons Privileges Committee on whether he had misled MPs when he denied that parties anti-lockdowns, first revealed by the Mirror, took place in Downing Street.

Allies launched a counter-offensive over the weekend, accusing No 10 of getting involved in his resignation honors list and blocking key acolytes from going to the House of Commons. lords.

Mr. Johnson reportedly used a secret meeting 10 days ago to plead with Mr Sunak to ensure the candidates could still make it to the Upper House at a later date.
